I am 33 years old and currently taking a sabbatical from full time employment, having moved to Antwerp in November 2020 during lockdown. The best way to spend a sabbatical is to be with as many dogs as possible! Due to my free time, I will be able to spend plenty of time with your pets. As I do not work, my days are very flexible. Until the end of June 2023 I will be at Dutch language courses 09.00-12.00 m/w/do/v so I cannot accept walks or care during this time.
I live with my equally dog loving boyfriend, and we have two mopshonden of our own. Although we live in the city we have a secure garage block outdoor area and we are close to the Rivierenhof and stadspark, as well as a number of secure hondenparks. We live in a spacious and light second floor apartment on a very quiet street, so the sounds of the city will not cause stress to your pets while they're in the house. Because we live in an apartment, I take the dogs out 3x a day for a walk.
Although I currently speak only English, I have basic Dutch and I know dog-commands in Dutch thanks to my in-laws and their many dogs. We regularly walk or look after our family dogs, and we especially love to socialise in the Hondenpark Eglantierlaan.
I have a bullitt bike that can securely transport small-medium dogs with a harness if you feel comfortable with this (collection/drop off is only available via this transport up to 5km from Borgerhout) - my dogs love their personal taxi!
My dogs are both seniors and only one is able to walk very long distances anymore, so dog walking will be a way for me to explore bigger parks and the Antwerp area while spending time with dogs. I have grown up with dogs (and other animals!) and I dream of being able to work with them as a full time job. I love all animals but sadly my dogs are not compatible with cats, so while I can do home visits and spend some time with your pet if you have cats or other animals, I cannot do day care in my home.
My 8 year old pug Watson has chronic back pain and so I am experienced with managing difficult behaviours in relation to pain or anxiety in dogs, including administering medication if necessary. He can also be reactive on the lead due to his pain and so I am experienced in positive reinforcement treat training to overcome these behaviours.
